The FSLF Kids; R&S is the children’s arm of the Friends of the
Seven Lakes Foundation for children ages 6-12. It was officially
established in June 2003 in Canossa College, San Pablo City,
Philippines. It was at this time that the FSLF mother organization
affiliated itself with the Roots & Shoots International, which is
the Jane Goodall Institute's international environmental and
humanitarian program for young people based in the USA. The group also
affiliated with the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs in
September 2003. The FSLF Youth was then set up for children 12-16 two
years after.
In just six years, the FSLF Kids: R&S has
successfully initiated or participated in various activities including
bayanihan sa lawa (volunteerism for the lake), outreach programs,
fieldtrips and exposure programs, mini camps and eco camps. In
September every year, the FSLF Kids: R&S lead the community in the
celebration of United Nation's International Peace Day by flying their
giant peace dove during a peace parade or rally. The FSLF Kids and
Youth have been featured in three Philippine tv shows - Real Stories of
Hon. Loren Legarda on ABC-5, Keep Up The Good Work of Hon. Joey Lina on
RPN-9 and Born to be Wild on GMA-7. The children have also represented
the school in various local and international children's workshops and
conferences.

On June 1, 2006, the FSLF was selected to receive the Roots & Shoots Certificate of Recognition for 2005-2006. Only the most active and dedicated Roots & Shoots groups receive this honor. The certificate was signed by Dr. Jane Goodall herself.
In the letter that accompanied the Certificate of Recognition, Ms. Sara Montag, Membership Coordinator of R&S-USA wrote:
As Dr. Jane often says: "Our tools for effecting change are knowledge and understanding; persistence and hard work; love and compassion and respect for all life." Friends of the Seven Lakes Foundation (FSLF) truly embodies the spirit of Dr. Jane's message and the mission of Roots & Shoots.
The FSLF Youth was established in 2005 to accomodate the needs of our young environmentalists, who were stepping into high school. At ages 12-16, the FSLF Youth had more sophisticated ideas about what it was they wanted to do exactly for the environment.
This coming schoolyear, the FSLF Youth hopes to play a major role in the understanding of "sustainable consumption" oncampus and among the youth in the City. The idea is to focus efforts on changing the youth's wasteful consumption patterns into ones that are more attuned to sustainable development. The FSLF Youth is affiliated with the United Nations' YOUTHXCHANGE Program, which is introducing the concept of "sustainable consumption" all over the world.
"Sustainable Consumption is about finding workable solutions to imbalances - social and environmental - through more responsible behaviour from everyone, In particular, sustainable consumption is linked to production and distribution, use and disposal of products and services and provides the means to rethink their lifecycle. The aim is to ensure that the basic needs of the entire global community are met, excess is reduced and environmental damage is avoided."
In the past two summers, the FSLF Youth acted as assistant facilitators at the FSLF Kids' annual Mini Camps.

In 2005, a small group submitted a proposal to an international awards committee. Although, they did not win a grant, the FSLF Youth were able to put together a plan of action for conducting eco-camps that would bring together FSLF Kids/Youth and the children of fisherfolk.
